William Daniel Morien, 92, of rural Stratford, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran (high steeple) Church, Town of Wien, (Edgar) with Rev. Jeffrey Lambrecht officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6352 of Stratford. The visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford and on Saturday from 9:30 am until service time at St. John's Lutheran Church. Bill was born on October 11, 1919 to Anton and Augusta (Morofski) Morien and attended schools in Ringle and East Reid. In 1937 he joined the Civil Conservation Corps after which he spent two years as a lumber jack in Michigan. In 1944 Bill joined the Army, operating heavy equipment. He served under General Patton in Saipan. He and Mae Louise Schlichting were united in marriage on October 29, 1949 and together raised four children in the Town of Weston, Ringle and Statford areas where he enjoyed farming. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Mae, son Daniel, daughters, Mae Beth (Gene) Kelley, Holly Meaders, and Melanie (Bob) Bruno, and a grandson, Nathan Kelley and granddaughters, Avalon and Saffron Bruno. He is also survived by a sister, Leona, a half sister, Elaine, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Anton, Oscar, Joe and Edward, stepbrothers, Leonard and Elmer, a sister Helen, a half sister, Phyllis and son-in-law, Chuck. Mae Morien thanks her honorary daughters, Wilma Niewolny, Shirley Rosien and Marilyn McCann for their constant support and love.
