Obituary

William E. Hughes, 85, Marshfield, died on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Hughes, Steve Hughes, Ervin Hughes, Dan Hughes, Pat Hughes, and Tom Gotz. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:30 am until service time at Our Lady of Peace Church. William was born on May 4, 1928 in Marshfield, the son of Charles and Julia (McGivern) Hughes. He attended Sacred Heart School and Marshfield Senior High School. He served in the National Guard from 1948 until he was honorably discharged in 1956. He was united in marriage to Lucille L. Gotz on August 26, 1956 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. As a young boy he lived in Milladore near his cousins, who were like brothers to him. He cherished the time they had together. As a young man Bill was employed with his father at Hughes Auto Service. He spent countless hours working on cars, driving cars and always loved to talk about cars. After the family business was sold he began working at Hub City Foods, which later became Fleming Corporation, until his retirement in 1993. Bill took much pride in keeping his home and machinery in pristine condition. Bill was very proud of his Irish heritage and loved his Catholic faith. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, & brother. He especially loved his grandchildren and spending time with all of his cousins. He is survived by his wife, Lucille and their children, Nancy (Gary) Bymers of Marshfield, Sandy (Jeff) Schlinsog of Cedarburg, and Jim Hughes of Marshfield. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Eric Bymers, Becky (Dustin) Follen, Kelly Bymers, and Heidi and Wendy Schlinsog. He is further survived by his brother, Tim (Cheryl) Hughes of Marshfield. He was predeceased by his parents, and an infant brother, Ronald. The family would like to thank the nurses and all the staff on 6 North, 7 North and Surgical ICU also Dr. Douglas-Jones, Dr. Maki and Dr. Smith for the excellent care that Bill received.
