Warner was born on March 18, 1925, in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of Kasper and Mary (Wexler) Von Holzen. Educated in Ashland-area schools, Warner had a lifelong interest in a wide range of businesses. Through the years he transitioned from being an independent long-haul trucker, assistant cheese factory operator, and owner over the years of a dry cleaning business, motels and resorts, and a cranberry marsh. Warner also served for many years on the Marshfield board of directors of M&I Bank. But the focus of his life was on the automobile industry. He got his initial start as a car and heavy-duty truck salesman for Roffers Chevrolet in Ashland (now owned by Jeff and Kris Von Holzen). The high point of his business career, though, was as a founding partner of V&H Ford in Marshfield in 1968. Warner retired from the highly successful business in 1987.
Warner was married to Shirley Mae (Lynch) on May 4, 1946, in Ashland. Together they had three sons, Scott, Roger and Jeff. Married almost 55 years, Shirley died at the age of 74 on March 1, 2001. On May 25, 2002, Warner married Dorothy Marie Stangl (Pankratz) in Marshfield.
Warner is survived by his wife, Dorothy Von Holzen, three sons, Scott (Barb) Von Holzen, Wausau; Roger (Myk Segura) Von Holzen, Maryville, MO; and Jeff (Kris) Von Holzen, Ashland; stepson Mark (Julie) Stangl, Marshfield; step-daughter-in-law Lisa (Jeff) Moore, Janesville; three grandchildren Kinsey (Steve) Stensen, Eau Claire, Jordon Von Holzen, Ashland, Eric Von Holzen, Ashland; three step-grandchildren Amanda Stangl, Beaver Dam, Samantha Stangl, Marshfield, and Jeremy (Marcy) Drexler, Baraboo; eight great grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and brothers Erwin, Winneconne and Freddy (Marie), Lakeland, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Shirley,
brother Walter and sister-in-law Marian Von Holzen.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated in Warner's name to St. John's Parish, the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter, the Frederic Ozanam Transitional Shelter, Marshfield or the charity of the donor's choice.
