Virginia D. Marquardt, 88 formerly of Oshkosh went to her heavenly home on Saturday evening in Marshfield at her home. Funeral services will be 2pm Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel in Oshkosh with Rev. Darrick Kolterjahn officiating. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Park with military rites conducted at the gravesite. Family will receive relatives and friends at Lake View Memorial Chapel from 1pm Thursday until time of services. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Virginia was born on July 30, 1923 in Oshkosh to Wenzel and Alta (Jones) Jiricka. She graduated from Merrill High School and attended Business College in Oshkosh. On February 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Keith F. Marquardt at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Keith preceded Ginny on October 28, 1994. Prior to her marriage, she enlisted in W.A.V.E.S. (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service) a branch of the United States Navy on November 4, 1943 and received an honorary discharge on March 11, 1946. She was stationed at Quonset Point, RI, Great Lakes Naval Base and Washington DC. Immediately following her discharge she went back to work at Met Life. Ginny held several secretarial jobs throughout her years of employment. In 1985, she retired from the Career Planning and Placement office at UW Oshkosh. She and Keith both retired on the same day. In 2008, Ginny moved to Marshfield to be closer to family. She is survived by three children, Gregory (Cynthia) Marquardt of Shawnee, KS; Alan (Anne) Marquardt of Tomah and Joan (Dennis) Riedel of Marshfield; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother W. Peter (Barbara) Jiricka of Oshkosh. Besides her parents and husband Keith, she was preceded in death by a brother Jack Jiricka.
