Obituary

Viola Sofia Ploetz Untiet, age 103, died March 3, 2016 at the home of her son Paul and his wife Sandy in Stratford, Wisconsin. Graveside committal services will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Ebenezer United Church of Christ Cemetery in the Town of Cleveland, Marathon County. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford, with Rev. Sue Eidahl officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:00 am on Saturday until service time at Zion Lutheran Church. Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Viola was born November 30, 1912 to Henry and Elisabeth (Harmeyer) Ploetz in Sharon Township, Le Sueur, Minnesota. With her brothers Edwin and George, she grew up on a small farm on the city's edge. After she graduated from Le Sueur High School in 1930, Viola worked as a salesclerk, manager, and buyer at variety stores in Le Sueur. Viola married Norman Ernst Untiet on October 22, 1948 at Zion United Church of Christ, Le Sueur, Minnesota. After their marriage Viola and Norman farmed in rural Stratford. They enjoyed and loved their son Paul Norman and thoroughly delighted in their life together as they shared adventures with family and friends, church membership, community activity, and warm family love. Norman preceded Viola in death on April 9, 2003. Following Norman's death Viola moved to an apartment at Donald Sykes Villa in Stratford where she lived independently and made many good friends until December 16, 2015 when she moved in to live with Paul and Sandy. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edwin (Grace) and her brother George (Kathryn). Other than Paul and Sandy, she is survived by foreign exchange granddaughter Bettina (Schlatter) Zeltenhammer, husband Klaus, and children Verena Viola and Svenja Marie, and foreign exchange granddaughter Cornelia (Strothmann) Lossie, husband Fabian, and children Johanna and Simon, and many wonderful and loving nephews and nieces. Since Viola was so loving and accepting, she quickly became a member of Sandy's family as well. Sandy's mother Verna regarded Viola as the sister she never had, and Sandy's niece and nephews all regard her as grandma. Viola always thought and spoke the best of people. She was quick to be neighborly, helpful, and compassionate and always saw and expected kindness and good. Her faith in God was firm and sure. Like her own mother, Viola enjoyed quilting and sewing. She could knit, crochet, and embroider and always had dish cloths ready for her visitors. An excellent baker and cook, Viola kept Norman and Paul pleased with everything from sweet roll kuchen to sauerkraut casserole. She enjoyed playing Skipbo and Golf, sharing fellowship with friends, and playing the piano. In the garden, she was an expert growing everything from melons to daisies, and she canned and preserved her treasures for the winter. Being a mother to Paul was her ultimate joy, and she spent hours reading to him and creating all the fun he could want. The family extends special thanks to the Ministry Home Care Hospice Services, Pastor Sue Eidahl, and special friend Doris Bornowski for their loving care and support for Viola and her family. Every morning, Viola began her day with "This is the day the Lord has made for me. Let me rejoice and be glad in it." Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
