Verne A. Mortvedt, Sr., 93, Marshfield, died on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Three Oaks, Marshfield. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church, Marshfield. Rev. Trisha Turner will officiate and Maldon Plank will be the organist for Rita Berg as soloist and congregational singing. Burial will take place in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Nasonville and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 am until service time at Faith Lutheran Church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Verne was born on January 17, 1918 in Gardner, IL to Halver and Carrie (Monson) Mortvedt. He was joined in marriage to Jeanne Elizabeth Hills on May 2, 1942 in Aurora, IL. They farmed in Gardner, IL until 1945 when they moved to Aurora, IL where Verne worked for Sears & Roebuck. He left Sears to work at Equipto Manufacturing Company. In 1957 they built a house in rural Naperville where Verne could farm part time. In 1967 they bought a dairy farm in Chili, WI where they farmed until retirement and moved to Marshfield. Verne was a member of the Clark County Farm Bureau, and he and Jeanne were active members of the Sons of Norway and Faith Lutheran Church, Marshfield. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne and five children, Bonnie Berger of Aurora, IL, Verne "Bud" (Dawn) Mortvedt, Jr. of Stratford, Barbara (Allen) Strey of Eau Claire, Eric Mortvedt of Rockford, MN, and Jon (Sandi) Mortvedt of Marshfield. He is also survived by fifteen beloved grandchildren, William Berger, JeAnne (David) Niedra, Jeffrey (Angela) Berger, Karissa Torres, Craig (Cheryl) Mortvedt, Brian (Jennifer) Mortvedt, Amber (Patrick) Der Rosier, Steven (Leslie) Strey, Andrew (Jessica) Strey, Timothy Strey, Stacey (Michael) Mortvedt, Heather Mortvedt, Erin (Jason) Wescott, Joshua Mortvedt and Noah Mortvedt. He is further survived by seventeen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Hilah Thorsen, Selma Tweedt, brothers, Oliver and Howard, a son-in-law, Kenneth Berger and a grandson-in-law, Ernesto "Buddy" Torres. Verne was a peaceful and gentle man and he left this world in a peaceful gentle way and will be greatly missed by his family. The family wishes to thank the staff of the alzheimers and nursing units at Golden Living Center, Three Oaks for the loving care that was given to Verne.
