Obituary

Verna M. Fohrman, 89, Mosinee, formerly of Marshfield, died on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at her home in the Town of Emmet, Marathon County. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Halder, with Rev. James Logan, officiating. Burial will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Halder. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until service time at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Verna was born on June 30, 1923 in Stratford, to Walter C. and Anna (Harter) Doll and attended St. Joseph's Parochial School, Stratford, and was a 1941 graduate of Stratford High School. She also attended several supervisor courses through Weyerhaeuser Company. After her education Verna was employed at a Tinker Toy factory in Evanston, IL until December 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked. She then returned to Marshfield where she worked at Roddis Plywood Co., later known as Weyerhaeuser Corporation where she worked for 37 years, retiring in 1983. She was the first female supervisor of Weyerhaeuser Company in the nation. Verna married Robert W. Smith in Marshfield and they had 2 children. She later married Eugene Fohrman in 1973. He died in 1993. Verna was the first female to serve as Fire and Police Commissioner in Marshfield. She enjoyed golfing, knitting and tatting and was an avid seamstress. After retirement, she and her husband Gene spent their winters in Florida. She is survived by 2 sons, Richard (Jami) Smith of Sturgeon Bay and Daniel (Lori) Smith of Glastonbury, CT. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Dean A. (Linda) Smith, Carrie (Jim) Koskey, Jessica Smith and Kate Smith, 4 great grandchildren, Elizabeth Smith, Kurtis Koskey, Madeline Smith and Roberta Smith, and 2 great great grandchildren, Cooper and Rylee Rieck. She is further survived by a sister, Delphine Blaettler of Marshfield and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a daughter-in-law, Shirley Smith, 2 brothers, Charles and Walter Doll, and a sister, Eleanor "Bootsie" Brusky.
