Verlyn G. Rasmussen, 70, Marshfield, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 after a short and courageous battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia and ALS.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Heather Brown will officiate. A livestream of the service will be available on Verlyn’s obituary page at rembsfh.com. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery Columbarium at a later date.
Verlyn was born on April 11, 1955 in Marshfield to James and Eva (Sward) Rasmussen. He graduated from Marshfield Senior High School. He was united in marriage to Debra Prust on October 30, 1976 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield.
Verlyn was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He found the love of his life by chance at a homecoming dance he attended after his graduation in 1973 and has been with her for over 50 years. They were blessed with two wonderful children that he was immensely proud of. He was a hands-on grandpa who was always willing to guide and lead each of them. He could often be seen walking or biking with them and his daughter because he knew it was important to always get his 10,000 steps each day. Verlyn also attended as many of their athletic and school events as he was able. His family was always his number one and he would often tell you about any of their accomplishments.
Verlyn loved everything to do with cars. He was an active member of Specialty Car Enthusiasts for 37 years. He was the proud owner of a 1976 Corvette, a 1986 Monte Carlo SS, and his large collection of die cast cars. During the summer he enjoyed going to car events with friends and family. He especially enjoyed driving his Corvette around Road America in Elkhart Lake with his son Tim and attending Iola and other car shows. Verlyn could often be found looking online at cars for sale and was able to find the perfect Corvette for a dear friend. Throughout the years he was involved in and attended many stock car races. He was a pit crew member in his early years for some of his lifelong friends. This led to his son also enjoying the sport and becoming a pit crew member himself.
Over the years Verlyn developed a strong passion for weightlifting with some great buddies. They would attend weightlifting competitions together. He lifted his all time best of 405 pounds in his early forties. Everyone knew he was a strong man.
Verlyn was always willing to help all in need whether it was a friend, family, or neighbor. In the neighborhood he was known for his pristine shoveling and lawn care. He never turned down a dessert for payment of his services. In the community, he volunteered at his kids and grandkids school events in the district. He was a member of the Marshfield Eagles Club #624. He had volunteered his time there for many years while making many new friends.
His family and friends are glad that he is now at peace, and he will forever be our guardian angel.
He is survived by his wife, Debra, daughter, Tara (Corey) McCann of Marshfield, son, Tim Rasmussen (Lindsey Dischinger) of Marshfield, and grandchildren, Emma McCann, Hunter McCann, Sawyer McCann, Paisley Rasmussen, and Paxton Rasmussen.
He is further survived by his brothers, Terry and Ken Rasmussen, both of Marshfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Garry Rasmussen, sister in law, Linda Rasmussen, father and mother in law, Raymond and Gwen Prust, step mother in law, Margaret Prust, and brothers in law, Jeffrey Prust and Jim Bucki.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped us care for and visit Verlyn during this time, the Mayo Clinic in La Crosse, and Compassus House of the Dove.
