Valeria R. Zais, 91, Marshfield, died on Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the emergency room of Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be grandchildren, Ryan Kolbeck, Danielle Zais, Nicholas Zais, Abigail Swoboda, and Samuel Swoboda and a nephew and Godson, Thomas Kelnhofer. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Friday from 9:30 am until service time at St. John's Catholic Church. A combined St. John's Parish and St. John's Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary service will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Valeria was born on March 10, 1922 in the Town of Milladore, the daughter of George and Frances (Tauschek) Kelnhofer. She attended St. Kilian's Parochial School, Blenker and was a 1940 graduate of Auburndale High School. She was united in marriage to Carmen E. Zais on June 6, 1944 at St. Kilian's Catholic Church. He died on May 18, 1996. After their marriage the couple farmed in Kenosha from 1944 until 1952. They then purchased a farm in the Town of Marshfield and remained there until 1970 when they moved to the city of Marshfield. Val was employed as a food service worker for the Marshfield School District until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Parish Council of Catholic Women. She is survived by her children, Carmela (Charles) Kolbeck, Ronald Zais and Diane Swoboda, all of Marshfield. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Lynn Zais, Michael (Leann) Zais, Jason Zais, Danielle Zais, Nicholas Zais, Ryan (Tera) Kolbeck, Sheila (Kenneth) Leitheuser, Abigail Swoboda and Samuel Swoboda, and 5 great grandchildren, Emma Zais, Kenneth (Gina) Leitheuser, II, Dustin (Alison) Leitheuser, Aiden Kolbeck and Hannah Kolbeck. She is further survived by a brother, Edgar (Geraldine) Kelnhofer of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Jerrold Zais, and brothers, Hilary, Urban, Roman, Leo, and Raymond Kelnhofer and a sister, Adeline Deja.
