Urban M. Bargender, 94, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, at Vita Care Living Center, Stratford.

He was born Sept. 5, 1931, in the town of Frankfort, son of the late Joseph and Marie (Ellenbecker) Bargender. He married Arlene Bobert on Oct. 5, 1954, at St. John's, Wuertzburg. She passed away July 13, 2010.

"Urbie" worked the majority of his life as a farmer. He loved animals and enjoyed watching the birds at his bird feeder. He was very social and loved visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include his children: Scott Bargender and Sherryl (Jeff) Johnson; brother, Clarence Bargender; sister-in-law, Beth Bargender; six grandchildren: Alyson (Jason) Goldbach, Leslie (Dan) Kauer, Phillip Doede, Jessica (Nick) Lange, Rebecca Doede, and Luke Doede; and nine great-grandchildren: Anna, Tyler, Olive, Fionna, Emmy, Paisley, Sebastian, Oliver, and Everett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene; daughter, Jaye Doede; granddaughter, Erin Johnson; sisters, Katie Hart, Elaine Bargender, and Bernadine Schlais; brother, Lawrence Bargender; sister-in-law, Shirley Bargender; and brothers-in-law, Cletus Hart and Virgil Schlais.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar with visitation from 11:00 am until the time of service. Reverend Alan Wierzba will officiate. Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery, Wuertzburg, Town of Johnson. Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
