Obituary

Terry Walter Hakala, 63, passed away on October 30, 2011 at Ministry St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield, WI. He is survived by his wife, Darla, Junction City, WI, one son, Matthew (Dawn), Waupun, WI, one daughter, Niiki, Hustisford, WI and one step-grand-daughter, Tasha Crowe, also of Waupun. He is further survived by one brother, Theodore (Carol), Potato Lake, WI, and one sister, Tracy, (Peter) Kallas, Omro, WI.He leaves behind many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, great -nieces and great-nephews and close, personal friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Carolyn and Walter Hakala, Brushville, WI. Terry grew up in Waushara County on a small dairy farm. He attended a one room school in Brushville, WI, finishing his elementary education at Christ Evangelical Lutheran church school in West Bloomfield. He then attended Wild Rose High School. Terry entered and found his true calling in one of the last Normal Schools in the State at Wautoma. As a junior he transferred to UW-Stevens Point earning his bachelors degree. While there he also met the love of his life and they were married December 26, 1970 in Rhinelander, WI Even though he received many job offers, he chose to stay at John F. Kennedy School in Junction City, WI for over 33 years where he had done his student teaching. For many years he was known as "Mr. Kennedy" as he dedicated his life to his students. While teaching, he also earned his Masters Degree in Education. Terry was very active in the day to day life in Junction City. He was a member of the Lions. He was a long time coach in the local Little League remaining on the Board of Directors until his death. He was a trustee on the Village Board for 3 years. However, his real contribution to Junction City was his work on the Village Park Board. He was chairman of this group and was instrumental in acquiring 30 acres of parkland and in the building of both the North Pavilion and the handicapped accessible shelter. Funeral services will be 7pm Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Martens/Rembs Funeral Home in Junction City with Rev. Irv Volkmann officiating. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery in Junction City. Visitations will be from 4pm Thursday until time of the services at Martens/Rembs Funeral Home.
