Steven Roberts, 64, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at his home, with his wife at his side, After a courageous two year battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 205 East 3rd St., Marshfield, where visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Douglas Clement will officiate.
Steven was born on April 25, 1961, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Ronald and Joan (Gilbertson) Roberts. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Cheryl Thompson, on April 25, 2003 in Wausau. Steven always liked to say it was "the best birthday gift he had ever received."
He attended Marshfield Senior High School and graduated in the spring of 1979. He later attended Northcentral Technical College in 1995, where he earned his associate's degree. He went on to work as a central sterilizing technician for Marshfield Clinic formerly St. Joseph's hospital for 21 years.
Steven was a proud outdoorsman who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and held a lifelong love for nature. He found great joy in creating beautiful perennial gardens, fishing, hunting, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Most of all, he treasured time spent with Cheryl — whether relaxing beside a campfire on a warm summer evening or traveling together on adventures, especially to the Caribbean. Together they visited the Bahamas, Mexico, Jamaica, and Hawaii, where he especially loved snorkeling and scuba diving. He will be remembered for the many hours he spent tinkering in the garage, his gentle spirit, and his deep devotion to his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Cheryl; his stepson, Erik Thompson (significant other Devon) of Menomonie; his cherished grandchildren, Jace, Aiden, and Kaylie, of whom he was very proud; and his beagle buddy Lily.
He is further survived by his sister, Rhonda Butts (special friend Jeff Butts) of Marshfield; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mark Kienert of Wisconsin Rapids, Dave (Kathy) Kienert of Waupaca, Brian (Anne) Kienert of Oshkosh, and Rob (Stacey) Kienert of Waupaca; stepmother, Jackie DeLuca of Phillips; his stepfather-in-law, Dennis DeGodt of Clarkrange, TN, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Joan "Jo" Roberts; his father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Maxine Kienert; and his sister-in-law, Karen Kienert.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Compassus for their care, support, and kindness.
