Steve was born on December 8, 1966 in Neilsville, the son of Edward and Frances (Schesel) Selz. In April 1989 he fell in love at first sight with his beautiful bride Vicki (Balbach) Selz and they were married July 21, 1990 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal.
Steve and Vicki lived in Loyal before moving to Marshfield in 2006. While in Loyal Steve worked on the family farm with his dad until 1991 when he also began teaching drivers ed at the Driver Education Academy in Marshfield. In 2010 Steve became the owner of The Driver Education Academy which he ran until his passing.
Steve had a passion for teaching and it showed every time he entered the classroom and in every behind the wheel session. Steve positively touched the lives of so many students during his 35 years of teaching. Steve had the opportunity to teach several generations how to be smart drivers.
Steve enjoyed watching the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Nascar. He enjoyed taking road trips to various areas of the state to visit supper clubs, his favorite place to visit was St. Germain. He loved to watch his three children play sports and follow their passions. He was extremely proud of all of their accomplishments including their higher education degrees. But Steve’s favorite activity was spending time with his family to include his six grandbabies, from spending time in the yard, to camping or going on an annual waterpark adventure. He was always their goofy Pupa who made them laugh and smile from ear to ear.
He is survived by his wife Vicki, son Paul (Trisha) Selz, daughters Kayla (Matthew) Barteck, Kelsi (Cooper) Krings, grandbabies, Blakely and Brycen Selz, Peyton and Hunter Barteck, Taytum and Kamryn Krings, and his special Goddaughter Stella Selz
He is further survived by his parents, Ed and Fran Selz, his brothers Mark (Diane) Selz, Dave (Kathy) Selz, Rick (Peggy) Selz, Bob Selz (Katey Walker) and his sister Anne (Marty) Schwan, his nieces and nephews and his great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his Father-in-Law Phil Balbach, and his grandparents Herman and Justina Selz and Wanda Schesel.
The family would like to thank the Marshfield Medical Center 4 North and ICU nursing staff for their excellent care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established at a later date.
