Stephen Edward Martin 92, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011 at his residence. Steve was born January 25, 1919, in Ashley, PA, the son of Joseph George Martin (Marcin) and Anna (Illick) Martin. He attended Ashley schools, graduating from Ashley High School in 1937. After graduation, he worked in the local coal mine for a year, before working for Wilson and Sons Meat Packing in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. When WWII broke out, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force, where he served as a radio operator on B25 bombers in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the 22nd Bomb Squadron, 341st Bomb Group, and was stationed in Calcutta, India and Yeng Kai, China. After the war, he returned to Ashley, PA, where he worked briefly once again at Wilson and Sons. In 1946, he re-located to the South Gate, CA area, where he worked in the meat-packing industry, first for Coast Packing, then Bar M Company. He retired in 1981. In 1952, Steve married Elaine Elizabeth Kreibich. They were later divorced. In 1986 he moved to Marshfield, WI, where he lived during the summer months to be close to his son and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. During winters, he resided in Las Vegas, NV, near his Army buddy and pilot during the war, Jack Schofield. Steve was pre-deceased by his parents; brothers Joseph, Paul, and sisters Anna (Glenboki) and Helen (Gola). He is survived by his son, Garry M. (Darlene) Martin, D.P.M., of Marshfield, grandchildren Garry Martin II, M.D., Kansas City, KS; April (Rory) Hanlin, Pharm.D., Sanford, NC; Arynn Martin, Marshfield, WI, and great-grandchildren Jaiden, Aubrey and Adria. He will also be missed by his faithful companion, Ranger. Per Steves request, a private family prayer service will be held. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
