Obituary

Stephan J. "Steve" Barrett, 66, Marshfield, died peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, August 9, 2013 at his home. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. Rev. Samuel Martin will officiate and music will be provided by St. John's Church Funeral Choir. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:30 am until service time at St. John's Catholic Church. Steve was born on March 26, 1947 in Marshfield, to James and Lynette (Sommers) Barrett. He attended LaCrosse Central High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving 2 tours of duty during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge he began employment with Mobile Plywood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then in Marshfield. He later became employed at Lang Furniture, Marshfield until his retirement in 2008. Steve was united in marriage to Barbara A. Servais on June 3, 1972 in St. Joseph's Ridge. Steve was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Barb and their children, Ben (Jen) Barrett of Sun Prairie and Michael (Chandra) Barrett of Stratford. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Jordan, Savannah, Emily, Noah, Keegan and Tori. He is further survived by his mother, Lynette Barrett of Marshfield and his brother, Mark "Buzz"of Lindsey and his children, Jeremy, Luke, Thad and Hannah, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul (Claire) Servais, Donna (Larry) Clements, Everett (Barb) Servais, Emma Brockman and Bonnie (Charlie) Besch and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, James "Cheifer", a brother, Patrick and his father and mother-in-law, Art and Anne Servais. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to St. John's Parish, John Paul II Adoration Chapel or Ministry Hospice.
