Shirley M. Schmitt, 87of Marshfield died peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at House of The Dove. She was under the care of Ministry Home Hospice Care. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Friday, June 7, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Visitations will be from 4-6pm on Thursday at the Rembs Funeral Home and again on Friday at the church from 9:30am until service time. Shirley was born on April 6, 1926 in the town of Lincoln to Peter and Eva (Engels) Christensen. She was united in marriage to James H. Schmitt on September 21, 1946 at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield. She was employed at Wing Drug Store as a teenager and Stoney Beach as a bar maid. She later was a cook at Columbus High School and Our Lady of Peace Parochial School. After her retirement, she cooked for many years for funeral meals at the church, and worked seasonally at Figi's. Shirley loved to frequent the casino and bingo halls along with travelling with her best friends. If anyone knows how much she won, let her children know. Shirley is survived by her children Rodney (Rita) Schmitt of Green Bay, Anthony (Brenda) Schmitt of Marshfield, Janet Schmitt of Marshfield, James P. (Shirley) Schmitt of Chili, Gordon Schmitt of Marshfield, Dale Schmitt of Marshfield and Cindee Charron of Marshfield; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is further survived by one sister Leone Rondorf and two sisters-in-law Margaret Schmitt and Betty Fassler all of Marshfield. Besides her parents and husband Jim, she was preceded in death by her daughter Eva Marie Schmitt, son Jeffrey Schmitt, three brothers, Peter "Manny", George and Emeron "Jack" Christensen; one sister, Eileen Montag.
