Obituary

Shane Micheal Sibley, 55, passed away peacefully in the late evening, Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, with his devoted life partner, Sara, by his side.

A visitation for Shane will be held from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2024, Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 pm with the Chaplain Dennis Fahey officiating.

Born on May 3, 1969, to Richard and Janet (Schafer) Sibley, Shane grew up with a deep love for his family and a strong connection to the land.

Shane graduated in 1987 from Indians High School, Mazeppa, MN, where he excelled as a football player and a talented trumpet player in the band. One of his proudest achievements was always playing "Taps" at local military funerals, honoring those who served. His country roots were evident in his passion for working alongside his father on their family farm, as well as working with his parents at a bar/grill in Mazeppa. Shane would often remark that his dad was his best friend.

Shane's strong work ethic and adventurous spirit led him to explore various careers throughout his life. He worked at a grain elevator and hauled fertilizer in MN and drove a fuel truck in Decorah, Iowa, before moving to Marshfield. There, he partnered with Tom Breu at The Neighbor Bar.

Shane's life took a beautiful turn when he met Sara, the love of his life. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. For sixteen years, their romance flourished, and for fourteen of those years, they successfully ran a business together, Southway Pub & Grub, where he brought his love for grilling and his skill at making the perfect burger, a talent he learned from his father.

As Shane faced his battle with lung cancer, Sara remained his steadfast partner, providing unwavering love and support.

In his final days, Shane found peace on the banks of the Wisconsin River at Rivers Edge in Stevens Point. He was deeply grateful for the love and assistance of his brother, Mark, Sara's siblings, and the compassionate care provided by the staff at Heartland Hospice.

Sara Mayer, his life partner, will forever cherish their time together and the love they shared. He will be remembered by family and friends who knew him for his kindness, his dedication to his work, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him.

He is survived by his partner Sara Mayer, his mother Janet Sibley. His brother Mark (Carrie) Sibley. Sisters Kelli Johnston (Lonnie) and Sharlene Gahnz along with nieces and nephews.

He is further survived by Susie (Lynn) Luchterhand, Allen (Terri) Mayer, Tony (Mary Jo) Mayer, Richard Mayer (Nancy), Sally (Mike) Griesbach, Shirley (Terry) Weyer. Bob (Chery) Mayer, Sheila Paasch (Ray), Jerry Mayer, Shari (Jerry) Rahbel, and many nieces and nephews. All of whom thought of Shane as part of the family.

Shane is predeceased in death by his father, Richard Sibley.

Shane's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
