Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Eric was born on August 12, 1965 in Yatkinville, North Carolina to James and Frances (Phillips) Shacklett and spent his childhood in El Paso Texas. He was a 1982 graduate of El Paso High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the first Operation Desert Storm from August 3, 1983 until his honorable discharge on July 3, 1991. Eric continued his education after his discharge, attending The National Institute of First Assistance, Nursing school at the University of Texas, El Paso, and the U.S. Army O.R. Tech. School. He was employed as a traveling Surgical Technologist in O.R. and his last assignment was at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. He became manager for Central Supply at St. Joseph's and retired in June 2010 due to ill health. He was united in marriage to Lisa D. Goodyk Hawkins in Wisconsin Dells on April 10, 2009. Eric was the master chef, and together they would spend hours in the kitchen cooking up the most amazing food. Eating out was always a treat, and Eric's favorite place was Royal Tokyo with Chef Tony. Over the next few years, the family took several camping trips throughout the state, which included week long trips to Hayward and Door County. In the summer of 2010, the family took a trip out West to Yellowstone National Park. The boys remember it as one of their favorite vacations. In July 2014 Eric took a wonderful 2 week "bucket list" vacation to Alaska with his wife. He was so excited to reel in the 40 pound halibut while fishing and they even saw a whale breach on the glacial tour. It was fitting his bucket list trip was outdoors, because that's where he loved to be. Eric was a very active person. He enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, long range silhouette shooting, cowboy action shooting, enjoying all of God's creation outdoors, and sitting in the wooden swing watching hummingbirds with his wife. Eric also had another passion, football. Eric enjoyed watching his two sons compete for Auburndale in football, as well as watching the sport. His two favorite teams were the Chicago Bears, and whoever was playing the Dallas Cowboys. He was an active member of different organizations, which included the Association of Surgical Technologists, the National Institute of First Assisting, and the National Rifle Association. Eric had a passion for the period he grew up in. He loved all types of music, which he passed on to his children. He would quiz the boys about classic rock songs on the radio for a monetary prize, and he would even pay his dues when the stakes were high. He was also a big John Wayne fan and had quite a collection of his movies. Above all, Eric's greatest passion in life was taking care of people. He loved his family dearly and only wanted the best for them. That same attitude transferred over in his workplace, as it was patients first all the time. He was a kind, generous and loving husband, dad, and brother. He had a "heart of gold". He is survived by his wife, Lisa and children, Bryan David of Portland, IN, Joshua David (Vivian), of Clarksville, TN, Seth Daniel (Lydia) of Tuscola, TX, and Austin Daniel and Collin Dean, both of Sherry, and grandchildren, Bryson, Gabriel, Gavin, Niyah and Ascher. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Mark Shacklett of Irving, TX, Tommy Fresquez of El Paso, TX, Lisa Fresquez of Mesquite, TX and Dede (Tony) Pruett of Royse City, TX He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Millie Shacklett and Frances (Phillips) Shacklett. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Eric's choice of the Wounded Warrior Project. Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
