Ronald, affectionately was known as Ron or Ronnie by his friends and family. He was born on June 1, 1942, in Marshfield, to Wilfred and Anna (Regner) Maurer. He attended Our Lady of Peace Parochial School. As a young boy, Ron spent many memorable times at the family cottage with his siblings. This helped nurture his love of water and nature. After graduating from Columbus High School in 1961 Ron joined the Navy. He was active in the Navy from September 1961 until August 1963. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Ron was honorably discharged as a second-class petty officer.
After his tour in the Navy, Ron attended and graduated from Spencerian College in Milwaukee. It was after his college days that Ron met Ellen Kopp and they married on June 21, 1969 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Together they raised three children, Todd, Tara, and Brittney.
Ron joined the Maurer Roofing Company, the second of a three-generation company. His combination of people skills and business acumen helped Maurer Roofing grow into a thriving company in the community.
In his retirement, Ron turned his energy full time toward his hobbies of boating and hunting. He tended his land with care, planting crops, trapping beavers, and preparing each year for one of his favorite activities, deer hunting with family and friends at his hunting shack. His navigational expertise in boating was also appreciated by the many groups that traveled with him. Ron lent a hand to different organizations especially the Elks, American Legion and Our Lady of Peace Church. He was a strong supporter of Columbus Catholic Schools.
It is difficult to summarize Ron's life in a short tribute, as he was a man who truly lived life and carried a rare blend of success and gratitude throughout his life. He was a friend to many, and his generosity extended to loved ones and strangers alike. We look forward to joining Ron again in Christ's Kingdom.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Ellen, and their children Todd (Michelle) Maurer of Marshfield, Tara (Morgan) Reynolds of Greenwich, New York, and Brittney (Sam) Parks of Sheboygan. In addition, he was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Bailey Hanson, Lizzie Hanson, Isabella Maurer, Kenslee Maurer, Henry Maurer, David Reynolds, Faith Reynolds, Jonathan Reynolds, Benjamin Parks, Anna Parks, Nathan Parks, and Audrey Parks. He is further survived by siblings, Daniel (Kathy) Maurer, Mary (Bill) Scheuer, Nancy (Gordy) Earll, Kathleen Scheuer, Rita (Bob Weber) Hanneman, Sara (Randy) Henrichs, and Jane (Gary) Skaya.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Anna, parents-in-law, Ralph and Ruth Kopp, a younger brother Frederick Maurer, brothers-in-law, Thomas Scheuer, Dennis Hanneman and his grandson, Matthew Reynolds.
Memorial funds can be donated to Our Lady of Peace Church, Columbus Catholic Schools, or the American Legion in Marshfield Wisconsin.
Smooth sailing…Captain Ron!
