IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald D.
Cournoyer
June 27, 1951 – February 19, 2026
Ronald D. Cournoyer, 74, of Pittsville, was peacefully called home on February 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Ronald was born on June 27, 1951, in Marshfield to Dennis and Naomi Cournoyer. He graduated from Pittsville High School in 1969. On November 12, 1982, he was united in marriage to Joanne Sojka. Together they shared 43 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering partnership.
Ron worked at several local businesses cutting meat and delivering fuel until 1986, when he proudly purchased what many know as "Cournoyer Oil." He owned and operated the business until 2020, when it was transitioned to his son Matt and daughter-in-law Kelly. Seeing the company continue as a second-generation family business was one of Ron's proudest accomplishments.
In addition to running his business, Ron found great enjoyment driving bus for Hahn Transportation for over 30 years. His "bus kids" brought him daily joy, and he took pride in watching third-generation families step onto his route over the years.
Many also knew Ron as the local meat cutter. For decades, he spent countless hours in the meat shop processing deer, pork, and beef, and sharing stories from numerous trophy hunts with local hunters and farmers. Those long days were filled with hard work, laughter, and many cherished memories shared with family and friends.
Despite his busy schedule, Ron always found peace on his hobby farm, tending to his cows. The farm became even more special when his grandchildren arrived, each creating treasured memories with Grandpa that will last a lifetime.
Ron also faithfully served for over 30 years on the Town of Dexter Board, demonstrating his deep commitment to his community.
Among his many hobbies—fishing, hunting, trips to the casino, and rides with his beloved wife—his greatest joy was his grandchildren. They brought out the very best in him.
He is lovingly survived by his loving and caring wife, Joanne; his children, Amy (Jeremy) Lewallen, Paul (Kim) Cournoyer, Ryan (Amy) Cournoyer, Joel (Ann Soe) Cournoyer, and Matt (Kelly) Cournoyer; and his cherished grandchildren, Cade, Kelsy, Hunter, Carter, Jacob, Nathan, Casey, Sascha, Trinity, Hoyt, and Journee. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Cole, Clay, Cooper, Nathan, Kayori, and baby Becker to be, along with many nieces and nephews.
He is further survived by his siblings: Richard (Marilynn) Cournoyer, Nancy (George) Joch, Cindy (Scott) Schara, Bonnie Boehm, Vickie Hilgart, Steve (Carla) Cournoyer, and Jackie Cournoyer, as well as many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Naomi Cournoyer; his in-laws, Frank and Beatrice Sojka; his beloved son, Eric; his brothers Robert and David Cournoyer; his sister Mary; his sister-in-law Judy Cournoyer; his niece Grace; his nephews Travis and Chad; and Jennifer Cournoyer.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Buchanan-Rembs Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Joachim's Catholic Church, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Leo Raphael officiating. Interment will follow at the Parish Cemetery. Lunch will be served immediately following the burial.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to family and friends for their love, support, and generosity during this difficult time. A special thank you to the staff of St. Croix Hospice, and an extended thank you to Breanna and Pam for their compassionate and dedicated care.
Ron's legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and quiet generosity will live on in all who knew and loved him.
