Obituary

Romelle A. Grassel, 85, formerly of Blenker, died peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at House of the Dove, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Blenker, with Rev. Jesse Burish officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery and serving as honorary pallbearers will be friends and members of her card club. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. The visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from 9:30 am on Tuesday until service time at St. Kilian's Catholic Church. Romelle was born on November 22, 1929 in Marshfield, the daughter of Arnold and Romelle (Laufenberg) Knauf. Her mother died when she was 10 days old and she was raised by her paternal grandparents, Richard and Anna Knauf. She attended St. John's Parochial School and was a 1947 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School. She was united in marriage to Rueben J. Grassel on June 15, 1948 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. After her education, Romelle was employed at Sears Roebuck Store in Marshfield. After many years of working on the farm, raising her family and having huge gardens she worked in 1960, 1970 and 1980 for the U.S. Census Bureau. In 1981 she began working as an independent displayer and interior designer for Home Interiors & Gifts, Inc. She enjoyed music, card playing and traveling. She had served as president of St. Kilian's Rosary Society for several years in the 1970's and 1980's. She is survived by her husband, Rueben, of Marshfield and their children, Gary (Sherri) Grassel of Auburndale, Glenn (Terri) Grassel of Blenker, Jeffrey (Kathy) Grassel of Milladore, Anne (Steven) Weber of Henderson, NV, Mary (Jeffrey) Kolstad of Marshfield, Cynthia (Sandor) Szabados, Sr. of Riverside, CA, and Julie (Arnold) Kieffer of Hewitt. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Joan Knauf. She was predeceased by her parents, a son, Gregg, and a brother, DuWayne "Duke" Knauf.
