Robert J. Kohlbeck, 79 of Marshfield, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Care Center of Marshfield.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield with Fr. Savarimuthu Selvaraj and Deacon Ray Draeger officiating. Dorothy Gehrke along with Sacred Heart Funeral Choir will provide the music. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield.
The visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-7:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Monday from 9:30 am until service time at the church. There will be a combined Parish & Knights of Columbus Rosary service at 6:30 pm Sunday at Rembs Funeral Home.
Bob was born on July 25, 1935 in Marshfield to Wenzel and Laura (Schallock) Kohlbeck and was a graduate of Marshfield Senior High School, where he was an outstanding baseball player. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean conflict from 1954-57, stationed in Panama. Returning from service he began employment at the US Postal Service and found humor in reciting your address if he met you.
He was united in marriage to Marlene "Molly" Eckes in Marshfield on August 8, 1959. Together they operated Bob & Molly's Tavern in Hewitt. In 1963, he trained to become a Certified Flooring Installer through the GI Bill and opened his own installation business, B&K Carpet. In 1977 he retired from installation and began sales at Marshfield Flooring until his retirement in 1990. From 1983-92 they operated Molly's Pitcher in Marshfield.
Bob was an avid Brewer & Packer fan, taking pride in his Green Bay Packer Stock. He enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Pier Lake, golfing, curling and taking frequent lucky trips to Las Vegas. He served as the 5th Ward Alderman, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion for 43 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene and their children, Nancy (Mark) Fuller, Appleton; Karen George, Stratford; Gale (John) Baum, Pittsville; Patrick Kohlbeck and Diane (Scott) Boson, both of Marshfield. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley , Adam and Sarah Fuller, Appleton; Molly (Wally) Landwehr of Colby, Samuel (fiancée, Andrea Whitrock) Baum of Marshfield, Paul Baum of Pittsville and Emma and Nathan Boson of Marshfield; great grandchildren Chase Bonovich and Cora and Avery Landwehr. He is further survived by his brothers, sisters and their spouses, Donna (Harold) Anderson of Wisconsin Rapids, Roger Kohlbeck of Marshfield, Harold "Coke" (Barb) Kohlbeck of Marshfield, Janet (Al) Diers of Marshfield, Marilynn (Paul) Zimmerman of Marshfield and Pat (Tom) Verkilen of Tomahawk and a sister-in-law from Marlene's family, Barb (Ron) Scheibe of Marshfield.
He was predeceased by his parents, in-laws Geraldine Kohlbeck, Dennis Tesmer and nephew Kevin VerKilen.
