Obituary

Robert Joseph "Bob" Bores, Sr., 89, Marshfield, died on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Golden Living Center Three Oaks, Marshfield. Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield with Rev. Sue Eidahl officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #6352 of Stratford. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. A celebration of life will follow the ceremony at a location Marshfield Eagles Club, Marshfield. Robert was born the 12th of 14 children on December 30, 1926 in Marshfield to August and Bertha (Neubauer) Bores and attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Parochial School and Willard Purdy school, both in Marshfield. He was inducted into the Army on February 17, 1945 and served with Company C 163rd infantry, 41st Infantry Division and was honorable discharged on December 2, 1946. He was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After his military service, Bob was employed as a taxi cab driver and tri-city bus driver in the area. He then worked at Weinbrenner Shoes. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Lydia Winter at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Marshfield. She died on December 2, 1993. Bob and his wife moved to Stratford where they owned and operated Bob's Corner Bar in Stratford until July 1976. At that time, they moved to the Town of McMillan. In 1977 they purchased the Derby Bar in Marshfield, operating it until they retired on April 30, 1986. Bob enjoyed his retirement ice fishing, going to the casino and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an accordion player and played with bands, including the "Night Owls". He enjoyed shaking dice and his Canadian trips with his sons and the Stratford and Marshfield guys. He was a life time member of the VFW Post #6352 of Stratford, and the Wood and Marathon County Tavern Leagues from 1958 until 1990. He is survived by his children, Jo Ann Werner (Rudy), Gordon Bores (Joan), John Bores, all of Marshfield, and Ronald Bores (Twila) of Bangor, WI, and a daughter-in-law, Jane Bores (Al) of Cameron, WI. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, Lucille Schrader, of Marshfield, a brother, Gerald "Jerry" Bores (Arvilla) of Stratford, sisters-in-law, Robbie Bores of Henry, IL, Marian Pannier (Clarence) of Davenport, IA, Joyce Woodkey (Ronald) Lake Tomahawk; brothers-in-law, Harley Loos of Rochester, MN, Edward Winter of Dayton, OH,Lavern Landwehr of Stratford and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, August and Bertha, his wife, Evelyn, a son Robert Bores, Jr. a granddaughter, Kayla Jo Bores and brothers and sisters, Evelyn Krohn (John) Helen Vlahos (John), Eleanor Schnitzler (Roman), George Bores, Fredrick Bores, Catherine Konkel (Anthony Kowalski) (Walter Konkel), Melvin Bores, Ervin Bores (Dorothy), Raymond Bores (Annette), Betty Bores, Elaine Loos and sisters-in-law Joan Winter and Janet Landwehr along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Stratford VFW and VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the staff at Golden Living Center Three Oaks and the many who visited and sent cards to Bob.
