Obituary

Rita Theresa Wickershiem, 97, Marshfield, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at House of the Dove, Marshfield, just 7 hours before her 98th birthday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev, Savarimuthu Selvaraj and Deacon Ray Draeger officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 9:30 am until service time at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A combined Sacred Heart Parish and Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary service will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Rita was born on September 11, 1916 in Hewitt to Joseph H. and Anna (Huene) Burr. She attended St. Joseph's School in Hewitt. She was united in marriage to Lester L. Wickershiem on November 10, 1936 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. He died on March 21, 1984. Rita and her husband owned the Teapot Dome Gas Station and Beer Bar on Highway 10 & 13, Marshfield, for over 35 years. They lived in Youngtown, AZ for a period of time until she returned to Marshfield in 1986. Rita worked at Figi's for many years and was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital for over 20 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers Society. She enjoyed traveling with her friends to various parts of the country and world. She is survived by her children, Betty (Dave) Pratt of Marshfield, Elaine (Jim) Backaus of Grand Island, Florida, Ronald (Sue) Wickershiem of Redding, CA, and Richard (Luellyn) Wickershiem of Wabeno. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Janet (Tim) Morison, Tom Zink, Lisa Zink (husband – Steve Gagliano), Lori (Ron) Engel, Brian (Shari) Zink, Dean Backaus, Tracy (Kevin) Joyce, Troy Wickershiem, Scott (Kim) Wickershiem, Jamie (Stacy) Wickershiem, step grandchildren, David Pratt, Jr., Sheri Pratt, Barbara (Rick) Perkins, Jon (Jane) Pratt, Mark (Esther) Pratt, great grandchildren, Nathan (Shannon) Morison, Daniel Morison, Jacob (Erin) DeJarlais, Tyler DeJarlais, Jeremy Roemer, Brittany Engel, Ryan Engel, Brandon Zink, Josh Zink, Megan Joyce, Madison and Abby Wickershiem, Alex and Madelyn Wickershiem, step great grandchildren, Alex (Roxanna) Garza, Jacob Garza, Matthew and Bradley Lucio, Christopher (Nicole) Villanueva, Amanda and Nicholas Pratt, Evan and Olivia Pratt, a great great granddaughter, Emily DeJarlais, and great great step grandchildren, Emily, Rocky, Bobbie Lynn, and Bauer Garza. She is further survived by a sister, Tina Jirschele and a brother, Joseph (Geri) Burr, all of Marshfield. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester, an infant son, Lester, Jr., 2 grandsons, Michael Zink and Steven Backaus, 5 brothers, and 2 sisters. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Church, The Children's Miracle Network of Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital or the House of the Dove.
