Rita H. Kafka, 80, of Stratford, died with her husband by her side on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at their home in the Town of Emmet.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 11, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Halder, with Rev. Robert Streveler, a cousin, officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 am until service time at St. Patrick's Church. Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Rita was born on June 2, 1935 in Wausau, the daughter of John and Laura (Osterbrink) Connor and was a graduate of Mosinee High School. She then attended St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Wausau. Before her marriage, she was employed as a registered nurse at Wood Veterans Hospital in Milwaukee. She was united in marriage to Mark E. Kafka on August 31, 1957 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Halder. Throughout the years, Rita worked with Mark in completing and array of farm work: He regarded to her as "his right hand man". In addition to farming, Rita worked as a registered nurse on various floors. Lastly, she offered love and comfort to the patients and their families in hospice care at Wausau Aspirus Hospital.
Rita's life was enriched by being involved with many organizations. She was active in St. Patrick's Church serving as President of the Deanery and volunteering for various church functions. She served as secretary for Catholic Knights. Road trips, bowling, golfing, playing cards, vegetable and flower gardening fulfilled her life.
Rita is survived by her loving husband Mark and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Jerry and Art Connor and a sister, Joan Londo.
Rita will always be remembered as exuding positive energy, laughter, caring and love to all.
