Richard J. Martin, 67, Marshfield, died on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital, Madison, with his family by his side.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 23, 2014 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Friday from 9:30 am until service time at St. John's Catholic Church. A combined parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
Richard was born on February 27, 1947 in Marshfield, to Herbert and Marcella (Weigel) Martin. He attended St. Andrew's Parochial School in Rozellville and Marshfield schools. He married Helen E. Henricks on March 9, 1968 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield.
Richard was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus John Eisen Council #1799 and the Marshfield Eagles Club. He enjoyed working with the youth and confirmation group at St. John's and volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul. He had a passion for sports, hunting, rabbit, squirrel, white tail deer and hunting in Wyoming with his father, brothers, son, son-in-law and friends. He enjoyed and loved his work, much of which was hard, physical work, construction work and driving his milk truck. He eventually enjoyed doing every little boys dream of driving a dump truck. He was the family potato dumpling maker and loved to cook roasts and stews and soups. He will be remembered for his ability to tell detailed stories of his past hunts and life experiences. His greatest love was his family, children, grandchildren and siblings.
Dick is survived by his wife, Helen, a daughter, a son and 7 grandchildren, his daughter is Lorene (Craig) Keil of Mishawaka, IN, and their children are Madison, Evan and Lindsey and his son is Ira (Michele) Martin of Whitewater and their children are CJ, Hunter, Jake and Alexandra. He is also survived by a brother, John (Rachel) Martin of Merrill, and sisters, Carol (Jim) Bauer of Arpin, Bea Martin of Marshfield, Sharon (Jim) Nagel of Auburndale, Bev (John) Kirschbaum of Stratford and Mary Cutts of Marshfield and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Lois in infancy, and brothers, Paul, Roger, Jerry, Robert and Peter.
In lieu of flowers, the family will designate a memorial in Richard's name.
