Obituary

Richard A. Leick, 88, Stratford, loving husband and father, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Stoney River Assisted Living, Marshfield. The visitation will be held from 2:00 - 6:00 pm on Sunday at Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home in Stratford and from 9:30 am until service time on Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford. A parish rosary service will be held on Sunday at 5:30 pm at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, May 2, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Rev. Sengole Vethamanickam officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County. Richard was born on November 30, 1927 to Archie and Jenny (Knops) Leick and was a graduate of Stratford High School. He graduated from the Farm Short Course at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was united in marriage to Margaret A. Sazama on October 17, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby. A third generation farmer, Richard and his family developed a successful farming operation and in 1974, hosted Farm Progress Days with his brother, Kenneth. Richard was a skilled wood craftsman who enjoyed creating many intricate novelties which gave his children numerous hours of enjoyment. The inlaid card tables he crafted were used when hosting card club parties, which he and Margaret participated in for over 60 years. Richard also played the accordion and had a deep appreciation of polka music. He was an avid fisherman and for many years owned a cottage on the Eau Pleine Flowage. Later in life, Richard spent much of his time making rosaries and sent thousands of them to missions around the world. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Parish and a member of Catholic Financial Life where he served as an officer. He is survived by his wife, Margaret and their children, Susan (Stan) Baker of Dedham, MA, Gerald (Michele) Leick of Oostburg, Peter (Ellen) Leick of Stratford, Donald (Terri) Leick of Brooklyn Park, MN, William (Marti) Leick of Chandler, AZ, Brian (Darla) Leick of Stratford, James (Kay) Leick of Stratford, Donna Leick and husband Laurent of Madrid, Spain and Patrick (Dani) Leick of Cottage Grove, MN. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters and brothers, Dorothy (Louie) Kraus of Wausau, Lucille Leick of Marshfield, Mary Ann Schreiner of Wausau, Kenneth (Mary) Leick of Stratford and Orville (Rosanne) Leick of Wausau. He was predeceased by his parents and a great grandchild. Richard's family would like to thank the staff at Stoney River Assisted Living for the care and concern that they provided.
