Reuben M. Gessert, 90, Marshfield, died on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Eric Berns officiating. Entombment will take place in Hillside Cemetery Mausoleum where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until service time at Our Lady of Peace Church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Reuben was born on October 24, 1925 in Marshfield to Matthew and Josephine (Zahn) Gessert and attended Corpus Christi Parochial School in Bakerville. After his education he farmed for a time. He was united in marriage to Marie T. Fehrenbach on August 28, 1945 at St. John's Catholic Church and they were married for 70 years. Reuben was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during World War II. After his honorable discharge he was employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Company in Marshfield for 17 years. He then worked at Weyerhaeuser Company for a time until he became employed at Consolidated Papers and then Consowald in Wisconsin Rapids for 21 years until his retirement. He enjoyed making wood and hunting. During his life he built three homes.
He is survived by his wife, Marie and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Sylvester.
