Obituary

Raymond J. Pankratz, 98 of Marshfield passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the House of The Dove in Marshfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Thursday, February 4, 2016 at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield with Fr. Nate Kuhn officiating. Cindy Penker along with St. John's Funeral Choir will provide the music for the services. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post # 54 of Marshfield at the church following the Mass. Visitations will be from 4-7pm Wednesday at the Rembs Funeral Home and again on Thursday at the church from 9:30am until service time. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary service at 6:30pm Wednesday at Rembs Funeral Home. Ray was born on May 3, 1917 in the town of Marshfield to John and Ann (Hable) Pankratz. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's Parochial School in Hewitt. He served in the United States 9th Air Force during World War II with tours in Italy, France and Germany. He was united in marriage to Margaret M. Fischer on September 27, 1941 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Spencer. Margaret sadly passed away on February 27, 1997. Ray was a truck driver for Hub City Foods, Marshfield for 38 years until his retirement. He loved traveling the United States with his beloved wife. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. In his later years, he spent time playing cards with family and friends. Ray was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, John Eisen Council # 1799, Teamsters Local 446 and the American Legion Post # 54. Ray is survived by his nine children, Audrey Hazen of Mills Valley, CA, Rev. Dick Pankratz of Bristol, RI, Robert (Jing) Pankratz of Salem, OR, Jean (Dennis) DeNuccio of Wausau, Thomas (Merry) Pankratz of Baraboo, Gordon (Mary Ann) Pankratz of LaCrosse, Barbara (Rick) Knauf of Marshfield, John (Brenda) Pankratz of Billings, MT and Connie (Dennis) Dieringer of Marshfield; 20 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother Jerry (Pat) Pankratz of Lake Tomahawk, 5 sisters, Rita Kusta of Marshfield, Bernice (Carl) Spier of Milwaukee, Virginia (Donald) Williams of Marshfield, Donna (Myron) Zygarlicke of Nekoosa and Albertina Leffel of Marshfield; 2 brothers-in-law Ray Williams of Wausau and Bob Williams of Harshaw. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Lorraine Fisher, Dorothy Williams, Jeanette Williams, Isabelle Kohl, Mathilda Frey and a brother Joseph Pankratz.
