Obituary

Randall J. Smith, Auburndale passed away peacefully at the House of the Dove on Saturday, March 5, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church, Arpin, where the family will great relatives and friends from 10:00 am until service time. Randall was born in Racine, Wisconsin to Ralph and Phyllis Smith, on December 4, 1957. The family lived in Somers, Wi and Randy was involved in Boy Scouts, school and Church, at the United Church of Christ, Somers. In 1974 the family moved to a small farm holding in Arpin, WI. They began milking cows and Randy quickly learned a love of dairy animals, for which he developed an earnest gift and passion. He loved his cows and they he. He had a gentle hand and a patience about him that will never be forgotten. By 1976, the family, wishing to expand and purchase a larger dairy herd, moved to Auburndale, where Randy lived and worked beside his mother and brothers for all his adult life. He cropped thousands of acres on his tractors. He stacked thousands of bales of hay and straw. He picked more rocks than can be counted and he did his tasks with love and kindness towards all. Randy's health was an obstacle at times. He overcame many issues and continued on, long after his medical providers ever dreamed he would. He was a determined, sometimes stubborn man. But he loved the people around him with a gentle fierceness that was felt by all. He had a singular wit and a cornball sense of humor. He loved old TV (Andy Griffith, and the 3 Stooges), gameshows and mystery, crime shows. He spent hours working word searches and adding up numbers for the sheer joy of it! Randy's dearest love in life were his "kids", though he never married or had children of his own, every niece, nephew or stray kid that wandered in knew UNCLE. He was loving and gentle with any animal he came across and they, like the people in his life, recognized him as someone they could trust to treat them well. Fishing was the one and only vice he had. He LOVED it. He went on numerous, memorable and crazy adventures with his brothers, nephews, nieces and extended family. They traveled to numerous destinations in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Canada over the years and Randy found so much joy in those trips. His last trip was such a blessing. Even though he had to receive dialysis while in Canada his nephews made sure he got to go. They made all the arrangements and Randy was so very grateful for that opportunity! Randy will leave a painfully empty space in the hearts and homes of his people. But we are so grateful to know that he now walks in peace and painless comfort with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
