Obituary

Percy F. 'Sonny' Bump, Jr. age 78 passed away surrounded by his family on August 23, 2012 in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, August 27, 2012 at St. Michael's Catholic Parish in Hewitt, WI. Father Peter Raj will officiate and burial will follow in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2012 from 4pm to 8pm at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield, WI with a Knights of Columbus Rosary beginning at 6:30pm. Visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to the mass. Born on February 16, 1934 in Marshfield, WI, Percy Jr. was the son of Percy F. Bump, Sr. and Angeline (Vogel) Bump. Percy grew up on the family farm where he learned his strong work ethic. He attended St. Joseph's School in Hewitt, WI. Percy proudly served his country including serving in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1963. Percy met Mildred H. Singer and they united in marriage on June 18, 1960 at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Pittsville, WI. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family and friends in 2010. After military service, Percy returned to his homestead in which he purchased and resided with his loving wife. Together they raised four children and taught them strong values and work ethic and to always help others. Percy worked various jobs including Lang & Scharmann Foundry, Parkins Dairy, Karau's IGA and eventually managed Karau's Warehouse Foods from which he retired in June, 1999. Percy enjoyed his children, grandchildren, hobby farm, gardening, tending to his orchard, fixing small engines and visiting with the many people who stopped by. In his spare time, he loved taking his grandchildren fishing at his cabin on Lake Holcombe and following his grandchildren's sporting events along with watching the Packers, Badgers and the Brewers. He was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Michael's Catholic Parish in Hewitt, WI and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Millie and their children Mark (Lynn) Bump and their children Luke and Karly of Loyal, WI; Marvin (Anne) Bump and their children Cullen and Kieran of Hewitt, WI; Ron (Sandy) Bump and their children Michael and Sarah of Marshfield, WI; Renee (Jay) Bartsch and their children Payton, Weston and Mason of Prescott, WI. He is further survived by his siblings Audrey (Marvin ) Schillinger, Doris (William) Schwantes, Arlene (Herman) Kiepert, William (Betty) Bump, JoAnn White and numerous nieces and nephews. Percy was preceded in death by his parents Percy Sr. and Angeline, his in-laws Carl and Helen Singer and godson Kurt Kiepert. The family will designate a memorial in Percy's name at a later date.
