Obituary

Paul D. Habeck, 84, Marshfield, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Marshfield Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. A celebration of life will follow the service at Rembs Celebration Center.

Paul was born in Madison, WI to Alvin and Pheobe (Timmons) Habeck on August 12, 1941. The family moved to a farm in Unity, WI when Paul was a very young child. It was there his work ethic and love of agriculture flourished. He worked on the family farm with his father, then his brother for over 20 years. After leaving the farm, he worked at Rose Lawn Cheese factory until it closed, then he worked at Mullins Cheese until he retired.

He met the love of his life Lucy Regner on the first day of spring in 1987. They married exactly a year to the day they met on March 20, 1988. He was a loving and devoted husband. He and Lucy shared 38 years of love, laughter and happiness just being together.

Paul was a kind and loving man, a favorite uncle, great brother and a wonderful friend. He would help anyone needing a hand on the farm, in the woods or removing snow and doing any kind of outdoor work. Sometimes just lending a caring ear and a cup of coffee.

His favorite sport was bowling where he made many wonderful and lasting friendships. He enjoyed playing cards and board games with family and friends, and watching the Packers, Cubs and Badgers on TV while munching on peanut M&M’s or Hershey Bars.

He is survived by his loving wife Lucy. His sister Karen Siewert. In-laws JoAnn Habeck, Donna Habeck, Marcy & Rich Trahan, Rose Nelson, Chuck & Connie Regner, Cindy Regner, Connie & Mark Burant. Many nieces & nephews along with great and great great nephews & nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Pheobe, step mother Lorraine, sisters Linda, brothers Dean and Clifford, in-laws Alfred & Florence Regner, Don Regner, Don Nelson, and Dick Siewert.

CLOSE THE GATE

For this one farmer the worries are over, lie down and rest your head,
Your time has been and struggles enough, put the tractor in the shed.

Years were not easy, many downright hard, but your faith in God transcended,
Put away your tools and sleep in peace. The fences have all been mended.

You raised a fine family, worked the land well and always followed the Son,
Hang up your shovel inside of the barn; your work here on earth is done.

A faith few possess led your journey through life, often a jagged and stony way,
The sun is setting, the cattle are all bedded, and here now is the end of your day.

Your love of God's soil has passed on to your kin; the stories flow like fine wine,
Wash off your work boots in the puddle left by blessed rain one final time.

You always believed that the good Lord would provide and He always had somehow,
Take off your gloves and put them down, no more sweat and worry for you now.

Your labor is done, your home now is heaven; no more must you wait,
Your legacy lives on, your love of the land, and we will close the gate.
