Muriel F. Mickel, 95 of Stoney River Assisted Living Facility in Marshfield, WI died on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at the House of The Dove, following a brief illness. A private family service is planned at a later date. Muriel was born on April 15, 1918 in Freehold, NJ to Warren and Mathilda (Lange) Fairbanks. She was united in marriage to Ernest P. Mickel on August 16, 1947 in Freehold, NJ. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY and a Masters Degree in Library Science from Catholic University, Washington, DC. She was employed as the lead librarian for the Rockville Library branch in Rockville, MD. Muriel resided in Bethesda, MD, raising a family before moving with her husband to Marshfield, WI in 1991. Muriel is survived by three sons, Thomas D. (Tara) Mickel of Los Angeles, CA, Steven H. (Christine) Mickel of Marshfield, WI and Alan E. (Vicki) Mickel of Phoenix, AZ; 10 grandchildren, Matthew (Autumn) Mickel of Baltimore, MD and Catherine Mickel of Madison, WI, Christopher, Kelly, Jack and Scarlet Mickel all of Los Angeles, CA, Jennifer (David) Gustafson of Madison, Daniel Grabow of Stratford, WI, Pamela (Jared) Wentz of Poynette, WI and Richard (Leah) Grabow of Milwaukee. She is further survived by 8 great grandchildren. Muriel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and belonged to its choir. She greatly enjoyed music all of her life. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Besides her husband, Ernest, she was preceded in death by a brother Dexter Fairbanks and a sister Lucille Soden.
