Obituary

Michael Joseph Lee, 73, of Lac du Flambeau, WI, passed peacefully to eternal rest August 17, 2020, in the loving arms of his children. Mike was born December 30, 1946, in Erie, Pennsylvania to Robert and Ruth (nee Nelson) Lee. The family lived in Wisconsin Rapids and Beaver Dam before settling in Milwaukee. Mike graduated from John Marshall High School in 1965. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force and a veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting in 1966 as an Airman Basic. In 1968, Mike married Sidney Jean Wadina in Milwaukee. He served on Chanute AFB (IL), Nellis AFB (Las Vegas), Elmendorf AFB (Anchorage), and Fairchild AFB (Spokane) before deploying in 1972 to Andersen AFB on Guam in Micronesia as part of Operation Bullet Shot in Vietnam. He completed military service in 1974 as an E-5 Staff Sergeant. Mike and Sidney moved to Lyons in 1979 to raise their family. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 1987, and a Professional Engineer certificate from the State of Wisconsin in 1993. He was an avid Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast, making frequent cross-country trips out West with his riding buddies. He enjoyed a long and rewarding career at We Energies, retiring after 36 years in 2012 as Asset Manager of Oak Creek Power Plant. Fulfilling a life-long dream, Mike bought a log home in Northern Wisconsin where he enjoyed reading Ernest Hemingway, riding his motorcycle, fishing, watching Westerns and film noir, researching and collecting Colt firearms and military memorabilia, and visiting with his family. He had a profound appreciation and deep love of music, and for the majestic beauty of the Northwoods. A loving and devoted father, Mike is survived by son, Christopher (Lisa) Lee; daughter Stefanie (James) Lee; daughter Amanda Lee; grandchildren Ivan (Destiny) Abreu, Nathan Abreu, and Nicole (Jamal) Clark; great-grandchildren Wyatt, King and David; nephews Zachary (Laura) Lee and Benjamin (Racheal) Lee; niece Patricia Lee; sister-in-law Wendy Lee; and many family members and special friends who loved and cherished him dearly, especially Sidney. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and younger brother, Patrick Jon Lee. Memorial donations in Mike's name may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family extends a special thanks to the compassionate nurses and medical professionals at Marshfield Medical Center in Minocqua and Marshfield, who cared so lovingly for Mike throughout his illness.
