IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Meredith L.
Peterson
January 20, 1928 – June 28, 2025
Meredith L. Peterson, 97, Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Three Oaks Health Services in Marshfield.
Born in Minneapolis, MN on January 20, 1928, Meredith Louise Barkley was the daughter of the late Paul and Irene (Blake) Barkley. Upon graduation from Holy Angels Academy in 1945, she worked for 8 years as a government employee where she met Delton F. Peterson. They married in 1951, started a family, and in 1959 moved to Marshfield because of Delton's career. In 1966 Meredith resumed her career in various roles, as a medical transcriptionist at St. Joseph's Hospital, a secretary for a local law firm, and returned to St. Joseph's as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement in 1990. During retirement she maintained a craft business known as Meredith's Rose of Sharon and was an avid gardener.
Meredith was active in Al-Anon in the early 1970s after Delton found sobriety with the aid of Alcoholics Anonymous. They spoke frequently at local meetings and enjoyed traveling to numerous AA conferences together, sometimes as featured speakers. In retirement they became snowbirds each winter spending three months in Port Aransas, Texas. They made many lasting friendships during this fifteen-year season of their lives. They also enjoyed gathering with family during their annual stay at Lake Forest Resort in Eagle River, WI.
Meredith experienced a profound spiritual awakening in 1976 and became deeply devoted to her evangelical Christian faith. For decades she was active in Christian ministry and loved to write and lead home Bible studies. She fulfilled her dream of "walking where Jesus walked" in 2009 when she visited Israel with her niece Margaret Montreuil.
Meredith was preceded in death by Delton, her husband of sixty-four years; parents Paul and Irene (Blake) Barkley; and siblings Ronald, Paul, Patricia, and Douglas. She is survived by her sister Genine (Tom) Beigle; children Pamela (Gerald) Rhodes of Clintonville, WI, Paul Peterson of Marshfield, Patty (Paul) Osowski of Marshfield, and Stephen (Deborah) Peterson of Glenpool, OK; grandchildren Shana Rhodes, Tiffany (Adam) Betz, Lindsay Pockat, Tessa (Nathan) Lundt, Aaron Osowski and his wife, Liz Farmer, Matthew (Katie) Osowski, Holly (Bobby) Hagen, Erin (Brad) Sibley; and great grandchildren Isabella and Eli Betz, Lucy, Simon, and Kendra Pockat, Evelyn and Elena Sibley, and Penelope Lundt - all of whom she loved and touched deeply.
