Mary Ann Markee, 89 of Marshfield died on Thursday evening, June 9, 2011 at the House of The Dove in Marshfield. She was under the care with Ministry Home Care Hospice. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 am Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at St. Johns Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Stoetzel officiating. This date would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. Gigi Plautz and St. Johns Funeral Choir will provide the music for the services. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with Paul and Dean Markee, Aaron Perkins, Eric Kuyoth, Mark Bourcier, RM Griese and John Veard serving as pallbearers. Visitations will be on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Rembs Funeral Home from 4-8pm and again on Tues day from 9:30 am until time of the services at the church. There will be a combined Parish and Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary at 4pm followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 pm both at the funeral home. Mary Ann was born on August 29, 1921 in Hoven, SD to Joseph and Catherine (Reding) Poeppel. She was united in marriage to Sylvester J. Markee on June 14, 1941 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Hewitt. Sylvester died on January 13, 1982. They farmed for 35 years in the Town of McMillan, Marathon County. Her biggest passion besides her family was her floral gardens. She enjoyed talking to the people who came to purchase annual and perennials flowers. In the process, she made many friends. She was known as the "Flower Lady" of Marshfield. In the winter, she made patch work quilts which she gave to friends, donated to the Red Cross or other charities. Mary Ann has also traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She volunteered at many civic organizations in Marshfield such as St. Vincent de Paul, Soup & Socks, Knights of Columbus, Parish Council of Catholic Women and was instrumental in starting the Garden Walks in Marshfield. Mary Ann is survived by her children, Robert (Laurell) Markee of Marshfield, Carol (Al) Bourcier of Marietta, GA, Janet (David) Kuyoth of Mosinee, James (Janice) Markee of Jackson, Nancy (Kerry) Niebuhr of Brighton, MI and Mary (Chuck) Perkins of Maple Grove, MN; 13 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild. She is further survived by her siblings, Joe (Gladys) Poeppel of Little Falls, MN, Ray Poeppel of Marshfield, Pat (Jim) Reckner of Spencer and a half sister Norberta (Leo) VanderMay of Kadoka, SD. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two half siblings. Memorials may be given in Mary Anns name to Shirleys House of Hope in Marshfield.
