Obituary

Mary A. Burkhardt, 89, formerly of Marshfield, died on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield with her sons Rev. Alan T. Burkhardt and Deacon Ervin A. Burkhardt and Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from 9:30 am on Thursday until service time at St. John's Catholic Church. St. John's Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary will be held on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Mary was born on April 9, 1925 in the Town of Auburndale to Edward and Mary (Ertl) Schneider. She attended St. Joseph's Parochial School in Hewitt. She was united in marriage to Lester B. Burkhardt on April 23, 1952 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hewitt. He died on February 21, 2002. Mary had worked as a waitress and was a housewife and mother. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and donated many dish cloths and afghans to various charities. She created many shawls for various parishes prayer shawl ministries. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Parish Council of Catholic Women, sang in the church choir and worked for funeral luncheons. For a brief time Mary was a resident at Our House Memory Care in Wausau. She is survived by her sons, Deacon Ervin A. Burkhardt and Rev. Alan T. Burkhardt, both of Wausau. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren, April Weis and Brian (Brenda) Burkhardt and 3 great grandchildren, Emma Weis, Matthew Burkhardt and Elizabeth Burkhardt. She is further survived by her brothers and sisters, Arthur Schneider of Marshfield, Leo Schneider of Auburndale, Agnes (Clarence) Stini, Cecelia Wolf, Anna Lapinski and Bernard Schneider, all of Marshfield, and sisters-in-law, JoHanna Schneider of Wisconsin Rapids, Elaine Schneider of Auburndale and Virginia Johnson of Marshfield. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, brothers, Alois, Edmund, Joseph, Norbert and Peter Schneider and in-laws, Chester Lapinski, Lucille Schneider, and Donald Wolf.
