IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary J.
Bruggeman
September 29, 1935 – April 26, 2025
Mary Joyce (Ziegler) Bruggeman, age 89 of Hewitt, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was a feisty spirit and gave us so many funny and cherished memories in the weeks we had the honor of caring for her at home.
Mary was born in Marshfield, WI on September 29, 1935, to Emil and Merna (Knapton) Ziegler, who raised six children on their family farm. Mary proudly told her children and grandchildren about being the pitcher on the softball team at Pine Circle School. Mary graduated from Granton High School in 1953. On May 23, 1955, Mary married Eugene "Butzie" Bruggeman. They raised five children together. They enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage before Butzie passed away in 2002. Mary spent her early years raising her family while working at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory in the sewing room. She then became a CNA at St. Joseph's Hospital where she spent the early years of her career working in pediatrics. The last decades of her career she worked on 8N caring for cancer patients. This was her passion, and she spent many nights, after her shift ended, at the bedside of a patient at the end of their journey. We were blessed to be able to provide this same comfort for her at the end of her life.
Mary had a feisty spirit, and she was cherished by many. She will be missed by family and friends including her daughters, Deb (Rocky) Hubbell, Jody (Bob) McTavish, Julie (Ray, her Aggravation Boyfriend) Revord and Becky (Dave) Krause. Mary is also survived by her greatest blessings, her grandchildren, many which lovingly cared for her in her final weeks: Pam (Mike)Tracy, Melissa Hubbell, Amanda Hubbell, Shane (Amanda) Johnson, Simon (Katie) McTavish, Kaylee (Toran) Nieman, Sam Wise (the "favorite"), William Krause and Benjamin Krause. Mary was also blessed to be a Great-Grandma ("Big Grandma") and a Great-Great Grandma. She is further survived by siblings, Earl Ziegler, Agnes Behrens, Peggy Broski, Jude (Joe) Potts, and Ann Ziegler.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Butzie in 2002 and her son, Dennis Bruggeman in 1973. Further family preceding her in death was an infant grandson, Jacob Hubbell. At 89 years old, Mary said goodbye to many family, loved ones and friends throughout her life. Mary had a lot of spunk and sass, but she cared deeply for those she loved. She will be sadly missed.
Funeral services will be held at Rembs Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am, until the time of service at 10:30 AM. Pastor Dean Pingel will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield, and serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Mike Tracy, Toran Nieman, Sam Wise, William Krause and Benjamin Krause. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jacob Hubbell, Shane Johnson and Simon McTavish.
A meal will follow at the Rembs Celebration Center.
A very special thank you to her niece, Sara Dean for her love and compassionate care for not only Aunt Mary but her daughters and grandchildren in her final days. You made this time a true blessing and helped us honor her final wishes. Thank you to Lynn Pankratz and St. Croix Hospice for their caring support. Thank you, Pastor Dean Pingel, for your visits and the spiritual comfort you provided to Mary at the end of her journey.
