Marvin B. Michalski, 83, Marshfield had the honor and privilege of being called home on the eve of Christ's birth. Imagine the spectacular view he had that night. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Marshfield, where the visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Rev. Samuel Martin will officiate, and military rites will be conducted at the church following the service, by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Marvin was born on January 11, 1933 in Marshfield, Wisconsin, the son of William and Margaret (Degenhardt) Michalski. He attended St. John the Baptist Parochial School and was a 1952 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School. Marv served in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1956 aboard the USS Wiltsie. After his honorable discharge he moved back to Marshfield and began working at Felker Brothers, Corporation, where he was employed for 42 years until his retirement in 1998. On June 14, 1958 he was united in marriage to Lorraine (Tomkowiak) at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Thorp, Wisconsin. They bought and remodeled the old Town of McMillan school house where together they raised their eight children. In his younger days, Marv enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, bowling and fishing. He was a skilled gardener and an avid deer hunter. One of his most favorite times of the year was pulling out the trunk of deer hunting gear and preparing for the hunt. He acted like a giddy little kid as he anticipated the hunt and this special experience he shared with his sons. He was a lifelong blood donor, having donated over 13 gallons and was actively involved in Boy Scouts. Marv and Lorraine put many miles on their vehicles as they trekked about the United States visiting all their children and their children's families. Some of those ventures even took them to foreign countries. Many of the happiest and funniest moments shared as a family were straight through 24 hour road trips to North Carolina, made in a Dodge maxi van with bench seats, no seatbelts and no air conditioning, but we had an 8 track player and homemade curtains on the windows. Marv is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine and their 8 children and their families, Steve (Nila) Michalski of Marshfield, Carol (Rev. Dan) Jansen of Alger, MI, Joe Michalski of Oshkosh, Sara (fiancé – David Stoflet) Michalski, of Marshfield, Charlet (Wally) Endsley of Sheboygan Falls, Jim (Jan) Michalski of Webster Groves, MO, John (Tanya) Michalski of Mukwonago, Scott (Stacy) Michalski of Peachtree City, GA. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, Judy (Dale) Brumbaugh, a sister-in-law, Darlene Michalski, brother-in-law, Ed (Jane) Tomkowiak, sister-in-law, Rose Wyngaard, brother-in-law, Tom (Trudy) Tomkowiak and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Bernice (Willard) Willner, Martina (Vern) Smith, Lois Michalski and his brother, Donald Michalski. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in Marvin's name to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the American Red Cross or Marshfield Area Purple Angels (MAPA) a non-profit organization raising awareness about Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
