Martha M. Ertl of Marshfield died on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Colonial Center in Colby where she has resided since March 3, 2006. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 am Thursday, November 17, 2011 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Hewitt with Rev. Peter Raj officiating. Gladys Martin will be the organist along with JoAnn Haffenbredl and Colleen Stini as vocalists will provide the music. Burial will be in the church cemetery with her grandsons, Rick and Michael Ertl, Tim and Ronald Willfahrt, Douglas Snortheim, Joshua Raab and Paul Johnston serving as pallbearers. Family will receive relatives and friends from 4-7 pm Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Rembs Funeral Home and again on Thursday at the church from 9:30 am until service time. There will be a 6:30 pm combined rosary by the Parish and Knights of Columbus at the funeral home on Wednesday. Martha was born on December 17, 1916 in Marshfield to Xavier F. "Shorty" and Amanda (Koch) Haselberger. She attended St. Josephs Parochial School in Hewitt. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a housekeeper for various households in the Marshfield area and in the Roddis House Mansion for Hamilton and Catherine Roddis, owners of Roddis Veneer and Plywood Company. She cared for the Roddis six children and prepared dinners for business meetings. She was united in marriage to Anthony "Tony" Ertl on November 24, 1936 at St. Michaels Church in Hewitt. Tony died on March 21, 2002. They were married for 65 years. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November 1986. After their marriage, they farmed the Ertl home farm a short while and then farmed in the town of Richfield a few years before making their final settle back on the Ertl home farm in the town of Auburndale where they remained until retiring. They then moved to the Village of Auburndale. After Tonys death, Martha continued to reside there until June of 2005 and then lived with her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Jim Tremelling before moving to the Colonial Center. For more than fifty years of her lifetime, she provided a home and care for her brother Leo, who helped on the farm. Martha was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and its Parish Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the St. Michaels Choir for more than 50 years. She is survived by one daughter Nancy (Jim) Tremelling of Marshfield and a son Dennis Ertl of Marshfield, daughter-in-law Eleanor "Ellie" Ertl of Iola; 10 grandchildren, Rick (Marge) Ertl of Milwaukee, Connie Davis of Waupaca, Michael Ertl of Iola, Susan (Douglas) Snortheim of Marshfield, Tim (Denise) Willfahrt of Auburndale, Ronald (Tammie) Willfahrt of Auburndale, Sally (Joshua) Raab of Arpin, Amy (Paul) Johnston of Charlottesville, VA, Denise (Lon) Krause of Marshfield, and Haylee Kopelke of Junction City, 17 great grandchildren, Derick Ertl, Daniel Weinfurter, Jared and Macie Snortheim, Paul, Aaron, Maggie, Sierra, Logan and Carly Willfahrt, Mackenzie, Fletcher and Blake Raab, Hailey, Samuel and Madeline Johnston, Travis Hewitt and 3 great great grandchildren Peyton and Baya Weinfurter and Atticus Hewitt. She is further survived by 2 sisters-in-law Cecilia Haselberger and Loretta Ertl both of Marshfield; along with many nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tony, son Ronald, who died of cancer in 1999, two grandsons, Donald Willfahrt and Richard "Dickie" Willfahrt; five brothers, Edward, Joseph, Anton, Raymond and Leo Haselberger and five sisters, Ann Heintz, Ella Schneider, Rose Gonering, Theresa Earll and Marcella Rogers.
