Mark A.
Schroeder
January 4, 1955 – April 24, 2026
Mark A. Schroeder, 71, Chili, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire surrounded by his family and friends.
Mark was born on January 4, 1955, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Lowell and Eileen (Vold) Schroeder. He graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1973. He then went on to attend UW-Barron County and received his bachelor’s degree from UW-Madison. He later earned his master’s degree from UW-La Crosse. After 22 years together as partners, he was united in marriage to Lori Tasse on August 29, 2012 in Neillsville, Wisconsin.
Mark dedicated his life to education. He was a respected educator in the Granton School District for over 40 years, including 33 years as a middle school math and science teacher. Following his retirement, he continued to stay active as a substitute teacher throughout the district. He cherished the friendships he built with colleagues and staff over his long and meaningful career. In 2012, Mark was honored with the Crystal Apple Award for Teaching Excellence.
Mark was also deeply involved in athletics. He coached baseball, cross country, and girls basketball and volunteered his time helping with youth basketball clinics for the younger generation of Granton Bulldogs.
After retirement, he stayed busy delivering meat to local businesses on Wednesdays for Hewitt’s Meat Processing followed by golf with the guys at Neillsville Country Club in the afternoon. Then came an opportunity presented to him by Tom Dahlen to be a Food Safety Instructor for the Tavern League of Wisconsin. Mark traveled across the state 3-4 times a month teaching restaurant and bar owners and employees a food safety course, a chapter in his life he truly enjoyed.
Mark was a true Badgers, Packers, and Brewers fan. He loved attending games and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed deer camp with Mike, Jason & Joe. He and Lori were also avid UTV riders. Mark had a special place in his heart for animals. Stray cats and dogs always seemed to find their way to him. He especially had a love of English Bulldogs throughout his life, including Max, Bossman, and Haus.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Tasse of Chili, brother, Craig Schroeder of Rice Lake, niece, Lindsey (John) Powell, nephew, Evan (Rachel Kelash) Schroeder, and great nephew, Will Powell.
He is further survived by his mother-in-law, Betty Tasse, brothers and sisters in law, Jim (Amy) Tasse, Tom (Barb) Tasse, Barb (Bob) Christensen, Mary (Brian) McClung, and Deb (Tim) Carlson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Erin, Amanda (John), Ben (Jackie), Mandy (Alex), Zac (Lauren), Libby (Erik), Hannah (Jake), Jenny (Josh), and Isabelle, and great nieces and nephews, Braden, Austin, Peyton, Brynlie, Jack, Stella, Andrew, Penelope, Sloan, Collins, Peter, Salvatore, Simon, Clara, and Elle, many friends and cousins, his godson Mason Bartsch (Grace), and very special friends, Brian Hyllengren, Mike Shervey, and Renee and Jay Bartsch and their sons Payton, Weston, and Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Eileen Schroeder, brother, Dwight Schroeder, grandparents, Henry and Ella Schroeder and Clarence and Ida Vold, father in law, Cyril Tasse, and niece Rebecca Christensen.
A special thanks to our families and friends for their love, prayers, support, endless food, money, gift cards, hotel and Kay and Loren’s “apartment castle” accommodation - plus the many visitors he had. We would also like to thank Dr. Thomas Carmody, his colleagues and staff at Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire along with the entire CCU staff during Mark’s 6 ½ weeks of hospitalization. Mark’s care was stellar at all times. We were told from the beginning it would be a bumpy road. We were always treated with respect and kindness, which will never be forgotten.
Memorials may be directed to Shirley’s House of Hope, the School District of Granton, or by donating blood through Versiti or the American Red Cross.
Mark will be remembered for his dedication to education, his love for his community, and the countless lives he touched throughout his years.
A celebration of life will be held at Chili Corners from 12:00 - 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
