Obituary

Marion F. Meyer, 91, Marshfield, went home to heaven with family by her side on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Marion was born on November 7, 1924 in Chicago to Edward John Louis and Florence Louise (Culling) Burns. She attended school in Chicago and was a 1942 graduate of Hirsch High School. On April 25, 1945 she married Fred Eugene Vasecka and they had 2 children. They were later divorced. In May of 1955 she married John Blaine Meyer and they had 4 children. He died on September 29, 1985. Marion had been a Tupperware dealer/manager and also was an Avon lady for 8 years. After moving to Wisconsin in 1971 Marion and John bought a Montgomery Ward Catalog agency. After John's death she moved to Marshfield. She worked at St. Joseph's Hospital, first as a nurse's aide and later as a unit clerk. She retired in 1986. In May of 2015 she had been retired for 29 years. After her retiring she and her special friend Mable Selk travelled to all 50 states and 8 European countries. She also worked at the polls in Marshfield for 10 years. She started volunteering at the Wood County Department of Aging as a home visitor. Then at the YMCA for a couple of years and at the House of the Dove for 1 year, the Hospice office for 16 years, New Visions Gallery for 17 years, the Day Care Center at St. Joseph's Hospital for 8 years, the Surgical Family Waiting Room accumulating 1000 hours in 2009. She also volunteered at Hope Lodge for the Cancer Society and was involved at the Senior Center. She and a friend handled the smear tournament on the 2nd Sunday of every month for 14 years. Marion loved to play cards, bingo, read, belonged to a card club and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She usually would make 1 or 2 trips a year to see the family in the Chicago Area. Marion is survived by 5 children, Kenneth Alan (Carol) Vasecka of Monroe, IL, Nancy Lee (Vasecka) (Daniel) Witt of Palos Hills, IL, James John Meyer of Mosinee, WI, Marcia Ann (Meyer) (Leroy) Hasz of Chili, WI, and Thomas Owen (Jane) Meyer of Rhinelander, WI. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, a son John Edward Meyer, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers. There will be no public visitation per Marion's request to be cremated.
