Marie H. Schmitt, 82 of Marshfield died on Monday evening, August 15, 2011 at her home with her family at her side. She was under the Ministry Home Hospice Care Program. Memorial services will be 3:30 pm Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Rembs Funeral Home with Rev. Ken A. Dix officiating. Family will receive relatives and friends from 1:30 pm until time of the service at Rembs Funeral Home. Marie was born on August 19, 1928 in the town of Green Grove, Clark County to Walter and Helen (Konhorst) Hake. She attended and graduated from Colby High School. Upon graduation, she attended beauty culture school and was the owner and operator of Bettys Beauty Salon in Marshfield. She married Robert G. Neumann and he precedes her in death. In May of 1954, she married Carl J. Schmitt. They settled in rural Marshfield and raised their family. Marie will always be remembered for her creative talents with a hook needle, thread or other medium of hand work. She would often comment that her favorite charity was the Marshfield Senior High School Madrigal Singers. She designed and created costumes for that group from its inception in 1965 until very recent years. In her final years, she took great pride in creating and hooking rugs which she shared with family and a few special friends. Marie is survived by her husband Carl, children Wayne R. (Vera) Neumann of West Minster, CO, Christine Cook of Sandusky, OH, Catherine "Katy" Schmitt of Menasha, Corrine "Cubby" (Lonnie) Rice of Hilliard, OH, one grandson Carl J. Harmon of Columbus, OH. She is further survived by a sister-in- law Elsie Hake of Curtiss and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and first husband Robert, she was preceded in death by a brother Roland Hake and a sister Ruth Boneske.
