Marie W. Norwood, 96 of Stratford died on Friday morning, April 25, 2014 at Golden Living Center Three Oaks in Marshfield. Funeral services will be 11am Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Community Bible Church in Stratford. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Visitations will be from 4:30-6:30pmWednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home in Stratford and again on Thursday at the church from 10am until time of services. Marie was born on April 5, 1918 to Joseph and Margaret (Zophi) Sawicky. She attended school in the Stratford area. She was married to Walter Schmidt on September 2, 1936 and he died on January 1, 1971. She then married Hershel "Jack" Norwood on June 25, 1977 in LaCrosse and he died on July 24, 2011. Wally and Marie owned and operated Schmidt Fur Farm which started in 1936. They started out raising foxes, then in 1938 purchased mink and operated the farm for over 30 years. The fur farm became the Woodbrook Mobile Park in 1970. Marie worked at Fischer's Grill in Stratford which she later purchased and renamed Tip Top Grill. When Marie sold the restaurant, she and Jack moved into the elderly housing apartments on North Weber Avenue. Marie is survived by her children Carol Knetter of Marshfield; Shirley Wunsch of Flagstaff, AZ; Ronald Schmidt of Brownsville, TX; James (Veronica) Schmidt of Stratford; Dennis (Janet) Schmidt of Stratford and Sheila (Gregory) Atchison of Wausau; 24 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother Raymond (Bernice) Sawicky of Anchorage, AK. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands Walter and Jack, two brothers Donald and Harvey Sawicky and a sister Eleanor Bauman. Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
