Obituary

Marian Josephine Sakowski, 96, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Portage County Health Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at St. Michel's Catholic Church, Junction City, with Rev. Andrzej Panek officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am until service time at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Junction City. Martens / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Marian was born in Polonia, WI on March 19, 1916, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Karch) Migel. After earning a high school diploma, she left her home and moved to Chicago. She held various jobs there, including contributing to the war effort making parts for airplanes. On May 11, 1943, she married her husband, Zygmunt Sakowski. In 1953 they moved to the Junction City area where they raised four children. Marian enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, cooking, baking and canning. She also made beautiful loomed rugs during the winter which she loved to share with family and friends. She loved nature and enjoyed long walks in the woods and berry picking. She shared that love with her children and grandchildren and they have fond memories of their time with her. She was also involved at the St. Michael's Parish in Junction City as a member of the Ladies Alter Society for many years. She is survived by two brothers, Edwin and Edward Migel; sons, Robert (Jacqui) Sakowski, Mount Horeb; Bill Sakowski, New Mexico; daughter, Kathy (Jim)Mansavage, Stevens Point and son, Mike (Renee) Sakowski, Brule, nine grandchildren; Cheryl (Jeremy) Nelson; Fr. Derek Sakowski; Eric and Alison Mansavage; Luke, David, Mark, Laura, and Sarah Sakowski and three great- grandchildren, Josiah, Eleanor and Annabelle Nelson. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Zygmunt, her parents, one brother Ben and sisters, Susan Gutowski, Agnes Wendlandt, and Ann Green. The family thanks everyone at the Portage County Home for the care given to our mother during her long and difficult journey, especially Merit, nurses Terrie, Rose, Miranda, Nancy and Mel and aids Jenny, Cassie, Brenda, Tara and Alcivila. And a very special thanks to Katie who gave her all to help Mom be the best she could be. Also special thanks to the Hospice staff at Ministry Home Care.
