Margaret E. Thornton, 81, Marshfield, died with her loving family by her side on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 am until service time at Our Lady of Peace Church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Margaret was born on May 20, 1934 in Shullsburg, WI, the daughter of Cletus and Florence (Murray) Wolfram and was a 1952 graduate of Shullsburg High School. She then went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, Platteville. After her education, Marge worked at Farmers Mutual Insurance for a number of years in Madison, WI.
Marge was united in marriage to John M. Thornton on June 25, 1955 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Shullsburg. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2015 with family.
Marge and John lived in Marshfield where they were longtime members of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Marge enjoyed winters in Arizona, golfing, shopping, Friday fish fries, garage sales, and her flowers. Her greatest joy was her family. She especially loved and enjoyed time with her grandchildren who always spent special time with Grandma in the summer.
Marge is survived by her loving husband, John, and their children, Sherri (Ron) Torrison of Milton, WI, Prudence (Tom) Ballweg of Waverly, IA, Colleen (Dave) Johnson of Marshfield, and John (Lisa) Thornton of Marshfield. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Glenda Wolfram.
Memorials may be designated in Marge's name to Marshfield Medical Foundation for cancer research.
