Obituary

Margaret K. Sternweis passed away peacefully at Stoney River Assisted Living on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the age of 97. Margaret Katherine Felhoefer was born on May 24, 1918, to Charles and Theresa (Zenner) Felhoefer. After her father's death during the 1918 flu pandemic, her mother moved 7 month old Marge and her three siblings, Joe, Ann, and Carol to Stratford, WI. Marge attended St. Joseph School and graduated from Stratford High School in 1936. After several jobs in Wisconsin Rapids, Thorp and Stevens Point, she moved to Marshfield in 1940, to begin a 37 year career at the Marshfield Clinic. On the snowy morning of February 6, 1946, she married Joseph A. Sternweis of Marshfield, a lifelong employee of Hub City Jobbing, Inc. In 1948 Joe and Marge adopted their daughter Mary Sue and Marge devoted herself to mothering. Two years later, Paul Charles joined their family. After a seven year work hiatus, Marge returned to her job at the Marshfield Clinic in 1955 and continued working for another 29 years, retiring in 1983 as an Accounting Supervisor. Throughout their 57 years of marriage, Marge and Joe shared lives focused on faith, family and friends. Marge was an active participant in church and school activities for over 66 years. A founding and charter member in 1946 of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marge became an enthusiastic participant and leader of the Parish Council of Catholic Women's (PCCW) and its many programs. For decades, she served as sacristan, coordinated funeral luncheons, and joined innumerable committees. A member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for over 60 years, she was nominated for the Woman of Light Award for the Marshfield Deanery Council of Catholic Women for her six decades of parish leadership at Our Lady of Peace. One of the oldest women to be chosen for this award, Marge was honored at the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) Convention in La Cross, in April, 2012. Marge also served as a leader and volunteer in the greater Marshfield community. In 1974 she began a 31 year term on the Community Development Authority Board. She was instrumental in getting federal grants to fund the building of Parkview Apartments and Cedar Rail Court retirement communities. In addition, as a long term member of the St. Joseph's Board, she helped to establish the St. Joseph's Hospital gift shop. For decades, Marge continued to support her many projects and passions as a regular volunteer at the St. Joseph's Hospital gift shop, at the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation and as members on various city boards, councils and committees. Crediting her widowed mother for her traits of self-reliance and fortitude, Marge was a strong light that shined brightly and long. She will be missed greatly by her loving family, by her caring and supportive friends and by her many coworkers who shared and appreciated her dedicated, devoted and focused energies. Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Sternweis in 2003, her daughter Mary Sue Erbs in 1994, a brother, Joseph Felhofer, and sisters, Ann Canney and Carol Felhofer. She is survived by her son Paul and his wife Pam of Dallas, TX; her son-in law David Erbs and wife Lynn Erbs of Edgerton, WI. She is the beloved "Grandma" to five grandchildren (Katie, Rob, Jenny, PJ and Elizabeth) and six great grandchildren (Zachary, Austin, Jensen, Hadley, Oliver and Bennett). A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, WI, with Rev. Eric Berns officiating. The visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday and from 10:00 am until service time on Thursday at Our Lady of Peace Church. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. The Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church or School or the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation. Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
