Margaret K. Schmitt, 93, Marshfield, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Golden Living Center, Three Oaks, Marshfield. Margaret was born on August 11, 1921 in Chicago to Michael and Stella (Hancock) Athans. She graduated from Marshfield Senior High School at W.D. Purdy School in 1939. On December 21, 1940 she married Donald H. Schmitt at St. John's rectory. They had been married 52 years at the time of his death in 1993. Margaret worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory and then stayed home to raise her family and farmed with her husband for many years. Later she also worked at Windy Hill Foliage until retirement. Margaret loved animals, especially horses and dogs, Milwaukee Brewers baseball and going out to play bingo with her relatives and friends. She is survived by her beloved friend, Paul Degenhardt, her children, Nancy, John, Patrick, Daniel, Mary, Gerard, Donna, Ellen, and Lianne, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, a sister, Aileen Heinzen, and other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband Margaret was preceded in death by a son, Michael and her twin sister, Mary E. Kenny. The family wishes to thank the staff at Golden Living Center, Three Oaks and AsceraCare Hospice for their loving care of our mother. Also heartfelt thanks to Paul for your unwavering compassion and support. A Private memorial service and burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be held at a later date.
