Obituary

Marcel J. Thompson, age 85 of Auburndale died peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2012 with his family by his side at Wells Nature View, 1016 South Adams Avenue, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Auburndale. Rev. Peter Raj will officiate and Marcel's son, Edward will be the organist for St. Mary's Choir and congregational singing. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 468 of Milladore. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield and on Monday from 9:30 am until service time at St. Mary's Church, Auburndale. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Marcel was born on November 8, 1926 in the Town of Milladore to George and Anna (Benish) Thompson. Mr. Thompson attended Stepping Stone Grade School and attended Auburndale High School for one year. He then spent a year and a half serving in the United States Army from 1946-1947. He married Evelyn Cerveny on June 16, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburndale. For several years the Thompsons operated a dairy farm in the town of Milladore. From 1967 to 1970 he worked for the Weyerhauser Company as a member of the maintenance crew. In 1979 they moved to the village of Auburndale where Marcel owned and operated a small engine repair shop where he was known to many people for his skill with small engines and their maintenance. He was a member of the American Legion Post 468 of Milladore and the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's in Auburndale. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a son, Edward of Connecticut; a daughter, Shirley (Ronald) Hartle of Stratford, and their children, Nicholas (Jennifer) Hartle and Jacob (fiancé Rachael Dahlke) Hartle. He is also survived by a grandson, Russell Linzmeier and two great grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, Joan (Robert) Karl of Kewaunee. He was predeceased by two sons, Russell and Steven. He was predeceased by two brothers, George and Joseph, and by two sisters, Marie and Helen and by a granddaughter, Amanda Hartle.
