Mae Schroepfer, age 96, Stratford, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford, with Rev. Eric Mashak officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Town of Eau Pleine. Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mae was born on October 23, 1929, in Marshfield, to Peter and Tressiea (Steuber) Grassl, and was a 1947 graduate of Stratford High School. She was united in marriage to Richard J. Schroepfer on October 1, 1949, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford. He died on March 21, 2003.
Following her education, Mae was employed as librarian and worked in the office for Stratford Public Schools. Later she was librarian at St. Joseph’s Catholic School until 2024 when she retired.
Mae enjoyed reading, being with friends, and enjoying time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was always one of her most loved moments. She also enjoyed fishing, her dogs, and being with her friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Marshak of Shakopee, MN and a son, David (Sue) Schroepfer of Belvidere, IL. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Douglas (Jeana) Marshak of Duluth, MN, Michael (Laura) Marshak of St. Paul, MN, David Marshak of Shakopee, MN, Jeffrey Marshak of St. Paul, MN, Timothy (Nicole) Schroepfer of Cary, IL, Sarah Schroepfer (Zachary Truckenmiller) of West Sacramento, CA, and 6 great grandchildren, Sophia Marshak, Emmett Marshak, Peyton Marshak, Zachary Marshak, Evelyn Schroepfer and Maggie Truckenmiller (expected).
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law, William Marshak, a great grandchild, Harper, and siblings. Grant, Lylas, Rose, Ray, Marcie, Harold, Peter, and Joann.
The family extends special thanks to Mae’s wonderful friends, Darlene, Jeff, Eleanor, Randy, and June, the caring staff at Marshfield Medical Center and all the other friends who made Mae’s life rich with love and happiness.
Memorials may be designated to St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish.
